Poverty is a multi-dimensional phenomenon which needs to be assessed comprehensively and from different angles. Therefore, development work also needs professionals with an holistic view on poverty reduction and who have experience in different thematic fields and at different levels.
My expertise lies not in the technical expertise of environment issues or agriculture, but in the social aspects of development and in poverty reduction which are an essential part of each thematic field.
The broad view on the complexity of the poverty reduction and in the social dimensions of poverty I have gathered due to my practical experience in several fields of development activities varies from community development, empowerment of women, management of natural resources, good governance to policy analysis and implementation through various positions in NGOs, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, the EU and consultancy firms.
Particularly I have specialised in the following themes:
Social dimensions of development
Self-help promotion
Rural and community development
Strengthening civil society
Governance
In addition, through my experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) I have learned even more about the interrelations of different project components and how they all can contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the projects. For more information on M&E please see the Services -page.
My university studies in social sciences provided me with a good understanding of development thinking, its methods, trends and logic. In my work I have tried to find ways to apply this knowledge in practical terms.
